The United States has less than 5 percent of the world’s population but has 25 percent of the world’s prison population. This is a fact that is often used to point out the huge human rights problem that is the prison institution in the U.S. The prison and legal system has also been undeniably proven to a major factor in the systemic racism in the US. Statistically A black man has a 1-3 chance of spending time behind bars.
