“This is what we came here to do,” said Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala. “We came here to make Florida a better place to do business.”

Democrats, though, were still smarting from an anti-union amendment Republicans added Tuesday. It goes to a provision requested by Gov. Rick Scott that would raise the corporate income tax exemption from $25,000 to $50,000. The GOP amendment would limit the higher exemption only to those companies that have no union employees.

The rejected Democratic amendments included proposals that would have allowed corporations to benefit from the higher exemption only if they provided health insurance for employees' same-sex partners and coverage for contraceptives; used a federal database to determine if new hires were illegal immigrants and proved they did not discriminate against veterans in hiring.

The Republicans, though, did permit one Democratic amendment to pass. It bars corporations that do business with terrorist states from getting the exemption.

so...

dems only wanted to tax corporations that do business with terrorist states?

and not shut them down completely?

hrrrrmmmm....

im thinkin republicans would have supported any bill that hurt corporations that do business with terrorist states... including one where they could simply bomb the building of corporations that do business with terrorist states

    Better Careful

Unions are good for the economy and nation. I believe the right-wing hates unions from an authoritarian urge. The right-wing cannot abide sharing power; they demand that those who are not they are rendered, and stay, powerless. Authoritarians want hostages, in other words.

Our right-wing has become fascist. They want our money and our freedom. It's our money and freedom, and we give it away by default, by doing nothing to stop those who would take our money and our freedom. Stand up to these fascists. Deny them their authoritarian urges. We, the people, have that power.

I can swing both ways on the union thing

private sector unions are cool (if the company owner wants to be a union shop)

public sector? not cool. I am not a member of a union and would prefer my tax dollars stayed un-unionized.

unions do not provide the best service at the best price,,, my tax dollars demand this...

unions support democrats.. my tax dollars should not be put into the democrat party hands.

Unions don't collect taxes. Where did you get the crazy idea that tax dollars go to the democratic party?

      never said unions "collect taxes"

said unions are paid by taxes

      and

      said unions support the democrats

is it your assertion unions do not collect dues and support the democrats with said union dues?

      Cheers :)

I guess I misunderstood what you said. My apologies.

is it your assertion unions do not collect dues and support the democrats with said union dues?

Yes unions collect members dues and use part of that funding to support whatever candidate they choose. But how are you drawing that link of unions collecting members dues to unions being paid with taxe money?

          try...

Yes unions collect members dues and use part of that funding to support whatever democrat candidate they choose

          not with my tax dollars...

I know you do not "get that" but that's not a problem for me...

I wasn't asking if that was a problem for you. I was asking you to clarify what you mean by your tax dollars.

We both agree that unions collect money from their members, what does that have to do with your tax dollars? I just don't see that connection you are making.
